Hello Nebinger Family!

I hope virtual learning has been going well for everyone! I can say that personally, it brings me so much needed joy to see the children’s smiling faces when I log into their classes for art time. I hope they too are experiencing joy in their learning.

And on to the updates!

School Calendars

Since we are virtual now, the monthly school calendar will be hosted on Nebinger’s website and it directly linked from our Google Calendar. So all updates or changes will be live to the viewer. You can also subscribe to the calendar by clicking the + sign at the bottom right of the calendar. It will open up your google calendar (if you have a google account) and add it to that.

Internet Information

PHLConnectED offers two options for eligible households to get free internet:
An in-home high-speed internet connection, or
A high-speed mobile hotspot for families who are experiencing homelessness, in-between homes, housing insecure or where in-home connection is not possible
PHLConnectED will provide free internet service for eligible households during the 2020–2021 academic school year. The City and other local funders will cover expenses such as equipment or installation costs. The City will also offer technical support. If students do not have any in-home internet access or only have internet access through a mobile phone, families can call the PHLConnectED hotline at 2-1-1 and press option 1 to learn more about:
eligibility for the program, the internet service that your family or household will qualify for, and how you can get connected.
Flyers in 10 languages are available on the District’s website: https://www.philasd.org/technologyservices/gettingconnected/. Additional information can also be found on the City’s website: https://www.phila.gov/programs/phlconnected/.

Grab and Go Meals and Chromebook Support

This is the School District of Philadelphia with important updates about grab-and-go meals and Chromebook support centers. Starting this week, distribution of student grab-and-go meals at our 63 school sites will change from Thursdays to Fridays with an expanded pick up time of 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Again, beginning THIS FRIDAY, September 18, student grab-and-go meals at our 63 school sites will be distributed weekly on FRIDAYS ONLY from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Also, starting today, the Chromebook pick up and repair Tech Support Center at 440 N. Broad Street will be transitioning to South Philadelphia High School located at 2101 South Broad Street.
The 440 location will remain open this week but Friday, September 18th will be their last day of operation. For this and more information, visit our website at www.philasd.org.

Census 2020

As our nation, city and School District work to recover from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, it is clear that a complete and accurate 2020 Census is more important than ever. Promoting a complete census is now part of our advocacy strategy to ensure the District receives all funding and financial assistance available in order to ensure that Philadelphia students and communities get what they need to thrive. The results will determine funding for many critical programs and supports like special education, school meals, and health and housing assistance. It will take all of us to ensure that every Philadelphian is counted in 2020! For more info and to complete your census, follow this link: https://www.philasd.org/communications/census/

Nurse Jackson Information

Nurse Jackson has a Google Classroom that your students can join from their SDP accounts. She has been sharing lots of important information about healthy eating to immunizations. Be sure to join her class for that info! She also posts important info on Class Dojo. Furthermore, I have linked her Google Calendar to the School Website in her Nurse’s Corner: https://nebinger.philasd.org/nurses-corner/

School Website

Under the parent tab, there is now a section called “Parent Resources” where we are storing information relevant to our time of virtual learning. Hopefully, that will make it easier for families to find what is important. https://nebinger.philasd.org/parent-resources/

In addition, I will continue to put news and events in that section of our website, so be sure to check there often.

Finally, please help spread the word to our families that speak other languages, that the website can be translated to the language of their choosing. There is a drop-down menu that can be clicked on toward the top left, select a language, and done! 🙂
